I felt like the author was speaking directly to me! She has a no nonsense approach to handling behaviors in a witty yet stern approach. I especially love how she titled her chapters with quotes of students she had taught. Plus, it is an easy read, and I can carry it in my purse so I can pull it out when I need it! I enjoyed reading this book. It deals with serious topics with common sense and a bit of humor...both are important and not so common. The author fills in some big gaps between education classes and the real classroom most new teachers face. She also emphasizes the important of patience and respect. The most remarkable teacher I ever had used these very tools and her students disciplined their own out of respect for her.
In addition, this paperback fits the pocket nicely so it can be carried around and read in bits when you get a short break.
What a great, easy, read! Most instructional books concentrate so much on the information that they become very dull and hard to get through. This book, on the other hand, was a breath of fresh air to read because it gives very specific details on how to handle situations as a new or seasoned teacher, but she writes it in a humorous way.
The author throws in many real examples from her career which keep it entertaining while also instructional. My favorite parts of the book are when she gives "must do" lists for teachers because these lists will allow the new teachers to learn from the author's mistakes.
All in all, the information given is very easy to understand and I think all teachers should buy this book...especially new ones!
